1. How Quick is Your Response Time?

Communication is key. Timing is crucial. You need to make sure your real estate agent is committed to a quick response time. You are not their only client, and they won’t be able to respond immediately every time, but you should feel comfortable with their interest level in providing excellent service.

You should talk early about your preferred method of communication. If you are a texter, make sure that works for them. Many items can be handled through text and can save time on both sides. However, it is frustrating to sit and watch your phone waiting for an answer.

They should be in the know of current trends and high growth areas. It is wise to be flexible in your decision and listen to the advice of someone who spends their days researching the best spots to get into and those that might be fading.

Another important aspect here is always to think resale. Does your agent feel like this area will trend up and improve your chances of a quick turn around when you go to sell?

5. Do You Have Established Contacts?

There is a tremendous amount of work that goes into buying a home. Much of it is handled by someone other than your agent. If you have to go and find all of these additional resources yourself, it will add to your stress and burden.

Find out from your agent if they already have a good working relationship with others in the process. Do they have an inspector they use consistently? Do they have mortgage lenders that they can recommend?
